Teen Counseling
You may have heard from your parents "You have it so easy, things were so much harder when I was your age." The truth is: being an young adult in today's world is harder than it has ever been. You are surrounded by mixed messages of who to be, how to think, and given so many choices that it can make it hard to decide on anything.
Being a young adult is one of the hardest times in life. You are trying to figure out who you are and this requires some separation from your parents which is tough because you still really need their love and support. It is no wonder why so many teens seek counseling these days.
When life is bringing a lot of changes (on the outside and inside) we all need someone to talk to in our lives who can listen without an agenda. Our friends are great but they want you to be a certain way and they are going through stuff too. Your parents are okay but you can't be totally truthful with them or they might freak out.
I have worked with a lot of teens before and I have seen how helpful it is for them to talk to someone who is not a friend or a parent. Having some time each week to talk things out helps you come to see yourself clearly and understand more about who you are and how you want to live.
A lot of times we might meet in my office. But I also like to go for walks or go get coffee or ice cream. I know it can be awkward to sit across from someone and talk about your "feelings" so I try to get us out and do things that feel more casual.
I can't promise to understand everything you are going through. I am from a different generation. What I can promise is to to listen with compassion and be non-judgemental. I have worked with teens for all different kinds of reasons; struggling with depression or anxiety, problems with their parents, questions about their sexuality, concerned about drug use or sex, and young people who just want to know more about themselves and what they want to do with their life.
This is a challenging time in your life but it can also be an awesome time to learn about yourself. I would love to help you do that!
